An Explanation of our Mission Statement

The Mission Statement of Dapto Uniting was developed over a series of meetings of the Congregation in 2009 and was confirmed at Mission Planning Workshops held in 2022 and continues as part of our Mission Plan 2023-2025.

At Dapto Uniting Church, we embrace the spirit of pilgrimage. Since our Mission Statement’s inception in July 2009, we’ve intentionally used the word “seeking” to convey that we are on a continuous journey—a community of pilgrims. We recognise that we haven’t reached our destination; instead, our focus lies in the process of becoming.

In 2023, we revisited and reconfirmed our commitment. Our Mission Plan serves as a compass, guiding us toward fulfilling our collective vision.

to be recognised

This phrase is intended to affirm the concept that a light should not be hidden. Our activity is intentional and observable. We are desiring to be a witness to the love and grace of our God, sharing in obvious ways that love and grace to all the people we encounter.

as followers

At Dapto Uniting Church, we understand that being followers goes beyond mere imitation. Instead, we embrace discipleship—a dynamic process. Here’s what it means for us:

1. Imitating Actions: As followers, we mirror the compassionate actions of the One we follow. Our lives reflect His love and grace.

2. Listening to Teaching: We eagerly listen to His teachings, seeking wisdom and guidance. His words shape our understanding and guide our steps.

3. Empowerment: Our journey isn’t passive. We’re empowered by the One we follow—the source of our strength and purpose.

We embark on a daring quest, following the trail of Jesus Christ, our Champion and the Divine Word made flesh. He is the essence of the everlasting God, intertwined with our mortal journey. In Him, we find our strength, our inspiration, and the paragon for our adventures.

At our core, we are a community united by prayer and guided by divine wisdom. We thoughtfully chart our course, and our mission is rooted in active, hands-on involvement. When challenges arise, we rally together, offering generous support and working in harmony with our fellow community champions. in and for

Our mission encompasses two key aspects: being "in" the community and providing support "for" the community. Being "in" the community means that we are fully integrated into the life and rhythm of the local area. We see ourselves as neighbours, friends, and fellow participants in the shared journey of community life. We are present, engaged, and accessible, working alongside others to build relationships, celebrate milestones, and address challenges together.

Providing support "for" the community reflects our commitment to serving and uplifting those around us. This involves offering practical help, spiritual guidance, and a listening ear to those in need. Whether through programs, resources, or simply acts of kindness, our focus is on addressing the unique needs and aspirations of our community, ensuring that everyone feels valued and supported.

Ultimately, we view ourselves as an integral part of the community, deeply connected to its people, stories, and aspirations. Our mission is rooted in a love for the community and a desire to contribute meaningfully to its flourishing. Our Mission Statement emerged from a vibrant dialogue, reimagining “the community” as an expansive and inclusive family. This vision embraces not only our beloved church members but also extends to our neighbors, both near and far. Our reach spans from the local to the global, uniting us in service and fellowship.

We are committed to inclusivity and diversity, welcoming all regardless of geography, creed, culture, identity, gender identity, or race. Together, we strive to be a beacon of unity and service, labouring tirelessly for the betterment of all in an unbounded fellowship.
